Kanal D Crime Series Bumper

 Murder Series Bumper

This bumper I created for the crime series "Cinayet" (Murder), an adaptation of the Danish series "Forbrydelsen" (The Fact), which aired on Kanal D in 2014, reduces the series' narrative structure to a single composition. The characters are arranged in layers of depth within a foggy and cold-toned forest; two detectives in the foreground, the victim's surroundings and suspects behind them, and deepest within – at the escape point, illuminated by light – the crime scene. Thus, each character's distance from the camera visualizes their position in the story: everyone is around the same murder, but at different distances.

The scene is constructed as a multi-layered composite work. Individually shot images of the actors are placed against the depth planes of the forest environment; the parallax movement created as the camera moves between these planes produces a sense of volumetric space from flat photographic layers. Layers of fog, depth of field and focus transitions, and a cool, blue-green color scheme establish the unsettling atmosphere of the series, directing the viewer's gaze directly to the murder scene in the depths. Weathered textured typography and publication information complete the composition.

Bumpers serve a different purpose than opening credits: they must remind viewers of the series within a few seconds during the broadcast, prompting them to tune in to a specific day and time. In this study, the goal was to fit the series' genre, atmosphere, and cast into those few seconds simultaneously.
