This opening animation I created for the cooking competition show Yemekteyiz, broadcast on Kanal D, combines the show's two core elements—the kitchen and the competition—in a single scene. Against a creamy, airy backdrop, tomatoes, cucumbers, parsley leaves, knives, and forks float in the air; white markers displaying scores like 5, 6, 8, and 10 directly visualize the show's format of contestants scoring each other. At the center of the composition is a red pot with its lid slightly ajar, and a handwritten logo resting on it.
The dramatic moment of the opening credits is the macro scene where two forks collide, sparks flying: the intersecting forks against photographic close-ups of the food ingredients establish the duel character of the competition in a single frame. This scene, deliberately departing from the light and playful tone of the rest of the opening credits, emphasizes the competitive side of the program.
Technically, the three-dimensional models of the pot, fork, and knife, along with the logo typography, were designed in Cinema 4D and rendered using Octane Render; the reflections of the stainless steel surfaces and the shallow depth of field required by the macro shots were the defining elements of the rendering process. Motion blurring of the flying materials, spark particles, point layers, composites, and color grading were completed in After Effects.
Competition program opening sequences must convey the format's rules to the audience without words. In this package, suspended scores and colliding forks were designed as two graphic decisions simultaneously conveying the information "cooking is underway" and "competing is taking place.".
