This promotional film for Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty, the country's oldest medical institution founded in 1827, tells the story of six years of medical education from a student's perspective, condensed into two minutes. I directed the film.
The film's distinctive feature is its camera technique: the camera is mounted on the lead actor's back, allowing the viewer to experience all the faculty spaces directly behind the student, over their shoulder. Each successive scene represents a day in the student's life at school, and the actor changes clothes for each scene. This seamless tracking aesthetic breaks away from the typical "wide shot campus + voiceover" pattern of promotional videos, placing the viewer in the student's shoes.
The scale of the production was also unusual for an institutional film: shooting lasted 62 days, utilized 36 different locations, and included a total of 110 shots. Scenes were filmed both in the historical campus of Cerrahpaşa and at Prof. Dr. Murat Dilmener Hospital; 167 people participated as extras. Ege Kılıç, a student from the university's Radio and Television department, played the lead role, and the film was produced entirely by the university using its own resources, without any external support.
When the film was released, it garnered more attention on social media than all the faculty's previous content and was featured in the national press. When constructed within the right conceptual framework, a corporate film becomes not only a promotional tool but also a visual expression of the institution's relationship with itself; in this project, the weight of a two-century-old institution was combined with a language shaped by the viewing habits of the new generation.
